Tennis star Sania Mirza recently shared one of the most difficult chapters of her life — her separation from former husband Shoaib Malik — during a heartfelt conversation with her close friend and filmmaker Farah Khan. Appearing on Farah’s YouTube show Serving It Up with Sania, the former tennis champion opened up about the emotional challenges she faced while navigating single motherhood, her career, and personal well-being.
During their candid chat, Farah addressed how tough it is to raise a child alone, saying, “You are now a single mother. Nothing is more difficult than being a single mother. It is very, very hard. We all have our journeys, and we have to choose what is best.” Sania nodded in agreement, admitting that balancing motherhood, professional commitments, and her studies often left her feeling overwhelmed.
In an emotional moment, Sania recalled one of her lowest points after her split, revealing how Farah’s timely support helped her push through. “I don’t want to mention it on camera, but there was a moment that was one of the lowest moments when you showed up on my set, and I had to go on a live show after that. If you had not come there… I was shivering. And if you would not have come, I wouldn’t have done that show. You told me, ‘No matter what, you are doing this show,’” Sania shared.
Farah also reflected on that day, admitting she was deeply concerned for her friend. “I got so scared. I have never seen you get a panic attack. I had to shoot that day, but I just left everything and came there in my pyjamas and chappal (slippers),” she said, showcasing the depth of their friendship.
The conversation also turned introspective when Farah opened up about her own early life struggles. Recalling the difficult period after her father Kamran Khan’s film failed at the box office, she said, “I was 5–6 years old and a very spoiled, pampered child till then. But I saw the repercussions over the years… When people say Bollywood is very tough, no, life is only tough.”
For context, Sania and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik officially announced their divorce in January 2024 after months of speculation. Her sister, Anam Mirza, confirmed the split, requesting privacy for the family. Following their separation, Shoaib went on to marry Pakistani actress Sana Javed.
