Vijay’s Fans Take Over: Sivakarthikeyan’s Posters Torn Down At Jana Nayagan Event

Vijay and Sivakarthikeyan fans clash as Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi release together this Pongal, with posters torn and events disrupted.

While Tamil cinema stars Vijay and Sivakarthikeyan appear to share a cordial professional relationship, the same cannot be said about sections of their fan bases. With Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan set to clash at the box office with Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming release Parasakthi this Pongal, fan tensions have escalated sharply, spilling over into disruptive and aggressive behavior at public venues and film events.

The theatrical clash has clearly struck a nerve with Vijay’s fans, many of whom seem unhappy about Sivakarthikeyan’s film occupying screens during what is being viewed as a historic moment in Vijay’s career—his last film before fully stepping into politics. The hostility recently came to the forefront through a series of videos circulating widely on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter).

One such video shows Vijay’s fans gathered outside Ritzy Cinemas in Madurai as they waited for entry to a trailer screening of Jana Nayagan. In the clip, several fans are seen tearing down posters of Parasakthi that were displayed outside the theatre and throwing them to the ground. Other members of the crowd can be heard cheering and recording the act on their phones, seemingly encouraging the vandalism.

The video was reportedly shared by a Sivakarthikeyan fan, who expressed concern over the extreme reaction. The user questioned how fans could react so strongly to a single box office clash and wondered how such intolerance might play out in the future, especially with Vijay preparing to enter active politics through his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

The situation did not end there. Additional videos from the pre-release event of Parasakthi surfaced online, showing Vijay supporters allegedly disrupting the gathering. In these clips, fans can be seen occupying multiple seats at the venue even before the event officially began. Many were seen switching on their mobile flashlights, shouting slogans, and chanting “TVK,” referring to Vijay’s political party.

When Sivakarthikeyan eventually took the stage and addressed the audience, the tension remained palpable. As he spoke about Parasakthi clashing with Jana Nayagan, loud hoots and cheers erupted each time he mentioned Vijay’s name. While some interpreted the reactions as admiration, others felt it was a deliberate attempt to overshadow the event and assert fan dominance.

Several Vijay fans later shared these clips online, openly challenging Sivakarthikeyan’s fan base and declaring that they would “take over Pongal,” further fueling online fan wars. The aggressive tone of these posts has drawn criticism from netizens who feel that such behavior reflects poorly on both fandom culture and cinema celebrations.

The much-discussed box office clash involves two major films directed by acclaimed filmmakers. H Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s final on-screen appearance before his political plunge, while Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara, is one of Sivakarthikeyan’s most ambitious projects to date. The films are scheduled to release just a day apart, on January 9 and January 10 respectively, during the lucrative Pongal holiday season.

Interestingly, this clash was not part of the original release plans. Jana Nayagan was initially slated for a Diwali 2025 release, while Parasakthi was expected to hit theatres on January 14 for Pongal. However, changes in production timelines and strategic decisions led both films to shift release dates, ultimately resulting in the current face-off.

At the Parasakthi event, Sivakarthikeyan attempted to calm the situation by explaining that he had tried to postpone his film’s release to avoid a clash. According to him, the decision to release Parasakthi as planned was taken only after discussions and with Vijay’s consent. His statement suggested that there was no personal or professional conflict between the two stars.

Despite this clarification, fan reactions online indicate that emotions remain high. Many Vijay supporters continue to express resentment, seeing the clash as an encroachment on what they believe should be a solo celebratory release for their favorite star’s final film.

So far, neither Vijay nor Sivakarthikeyan has commented on the fan behavior. Industry observers and fans alike have called for restraint, reminding audiences that box office clashes are not uncommon and that cinema should be celebrated rather than turned into a battleground.

As Pongal approaches, all eyes will be on how both films perform—and whether fan tensions cool down or escalate further during one of Tamil cinema’s biggest festive releases.
