Disney Reveals Live-Action Tangled Cast — And Fans Have A Lot to Say

Disney unveils the live-action Tangled cast with Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, signaling renewed confidence in its remake strategy.

Disney is officially bringing Tangled back to the big screen, this time in live-action form, and the studio has finally confirmed who will portray its iconic leads. Teagan Croft has been cast as Rapunzel, the adventurous princess with magical hair, while Milo Manheim will step into the role of the charming rogue Flynn Rider. The casting announcement has already sparked excitement — and debate — among Disney fans online.

Croft, an Australian actress, has steadily built her profile through television roles, including appearances on Home and Away and a breakout performance as Raven in DC’s Titans. Landing the role of Rapunzel marks a significant turning point in her career, placing her front and center in one of Disney’s most beloved modern fairy tales. Meanwhile, Manheim is no stranger to the Disney universe. He gained widespread recognition starring in the Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise and later impressed audiences with his charisma and dance skills on Dancing With the Stars. He is also the son of Emmy-winning actress Camryn Manheim.

The timing of the announcement is notable. Disney’s live-action remake strategy faced renewed scrutiny after Snow White underperformed at the box office, earning only $87 million domestically and $205 million worldwide. The disappointing results led many to wonder whether the studio would reconsider its approach to reimagining animated classics. However, the strong reception of Lilo & Stitch has helped restore confidence, proving that audiences are still eager for nostalgic stories — when executed with care.

Originally released in 2010, Tangled follows Rapunzel, a teenage girl with 70 feet of enchanted hair who has spent her life confined to a secluded tower. Her desire for freedom finally becomes reality when Flynn Rider, a thief on the run, stumbles into her hidden world. Their unlikely partnership sparks an unforgettable adventure filled with humor, danger, and self-discovery. In the animated version, Rapunzel was voiced by Mandy Moore, with Zachary Levi bringing Flynn Rider to life.

Walt Disney Studios confirmed the casting via social media, stating, “Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim are Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the live-action reimagining of Disney’s Tangled. Coming only to theatres.” The project was first reported to be in early development in December 2024 but was briefly paused following Snow White’s box office struggles.

Additional casting announcements have yet to be revealed. Scarlett Johansson was rumored to be in talks to portray Mother Gothel, Rapunzel’s manipulative captor originally voiced by Donna Murphy, though no official confirmation has been made.

The film will be directed by Michael Gracey, best known for The Greatest Showman and Better Man. With a fresh cast and an experienced director, Disney is hoping Tangled will restore faith in its live-action fairy tale era.
