Halle Berry Reveals She’s Engaged—and Flaunts Her Ring on TV

Halle Berry confirms she’s engaged to Van Hunt, clearing up rumors and showing off her ring on Jimmy Fallon’s show.

Halle Berry has officially put an end to months of speculation about her love life—and the answer fans have been waiting for is a joyful yes. The Academy Award-winning actress has confirmed that she is engaged to longtime partner, singer-songwriter Van Hunt, clearing up confusion that had surrounded the couple’s relationship status.

The 59-year-old actress shared the news during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, February 5. Addressing persistent rumors head-on, Berry explained that reports claiming she had turned down Hunt’s proposal were simply a misunderstanding that took on a life of its own.

“There’s some confusion that he asked to marry me, and I said no,” Berry said during the interview. When Fallon quickly asked, “But that’s not the case?”, the actress was quick to clarify. “No, that’s not the case. I did not say ‘no,’ we just don’t have a date. Of course, I said ‘yes, I would marry him.’”

Fallon congratulated the couple, telling Berry how happy he was for them and praising their relationship. Berry then proudly showed off her engagement ring, adding with a smile, “Thank you. He did put a little ring on it.” Fallon jokingly commented on the size of the diamond, drawing laughter from the studio audience.

The clarification comes several months after Hunt told Today.com in June 2025 that he had already proposed to Berry, but that the engagement was still “on hold.” At the time, Hunt suggested Berry’s hesitation was linked to her past experiences with marriage, even lightheartedly asking interviewers and fans to help convince her.

Berry has been married three times before: first to former Major League Baseball player David Justice from 1993 to 1997, then to singer-songwriter Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005, and later to actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016. Hunt has also previously been married and divorced.

Despite her history, Berry has consistently said this relationship feels different. In a previous interview, she explained that marrying Hunt would be about desire, not obligation. “Out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” she said, adding that the choice would be about love and expression, not pressure.

Berry and Hunt first met in 2020 and built their connection virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. After making their romance Instagram official later that year, the couple made their red carpet debut at the 2021 Oscars. With the engagement now confirmed, wedding bells may finally be on the horizon.
