BTS Military Secrets Revealed: GQ Gets the Scoop

BTS gears up for a global comeback with a new album and tour, revealing growth, maturity, and a renewed focus on unity after military service.

Global K-pop phenomenon BTS is entering a defining new phase. After nearly four years of hiatus due to South Korea’s mandatory military service, the seven-member group is preparing to reunite with a fifth studio album and an ambitious global tour.

Featured in the March issue of GQ, journalist Raymond Ang spoke with RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook as they reflected on personal growth, artistic evolution, and the future of the band.

RM shared that while winning a Grammy remains meaningful, it is no longer their central ambition. Instead, BTS is focusing on creative expression and artistic integrity rather than external validation.

Suga revealed that the upcoming album marks a shift toward introspection and maturity. The music will explore a wider emotional spectrum, embracing both light and darker themes. He also suggested that listeners can expect a sound that differs significantly from the group’s previous releases.

Despite their individual journeys during the hiatus, unity remains at the heart of BTS. V emphasized that their core identity has always been rooted in being a group, while Jimin reinforced the importance of teamwork in their success. Their relationship with fans, known as ARMY, continues to shape their message, with Jimin acknowledging the responsibility they feel to create meaningful impact through their work.

Jung Kook described the songwriting process for the new album as liberating and creatively fulfilling, while J-Hope reflected on his military service as a period of personal growth that broadened his understanding of life.

Looking to the future, Suga expressed optimism about the band’s longevity, imagining the possibility of BTS continuing to perform together well into their later years.

Longtime collaborators also praised the group’s dynamic. Chris Martin highlighted their strong bond and mutual support, while Halsey noted their shared vision and collaborative spirit.

As BTS prepares for their return, their evolution as individuals appears to have deepened their strength as a collective.
