Actor Trisha Krishnan has spoken out after her name became part of a controversy sparked by remarks made by filmmaker-actor R. Parthiban during a recent public event. Without directly mentioning him, the actor shared a pointed statement on social media, criticising what she described as “stupidity” and responding to comments made about her during an awards ceremony.
The controversy began after Trisha attended a wedding reception alongside actor-turned-politician Vijay (actor). Their appearance together quickly drew widespread attention online, particularly because it came shortly after reports surfaced that Vijay’s wife, Sangeeta Sornalingam, had filed for separation. Photos and videos of the two arriving together at the event circulated rapidly across social media platforms, triggering speculation and intense public discussion.
I was informed by the organisers of a recent event that my name and picture were included at the last minute at the request of an individual conveyed through his assistant.

A microphone doesn’t make a comment intelligent or humorous. It just makes stupidity louder.Crude words…
At the reception, Vijay was seen holding a bouquet as he greeted the newlyweds and interacted with guests. Trisha also mingled warmly with attendees, exchanging hugs and handshakes while taking part in the celebrations. The two later walked together toward the stage to congratulate the couple, posed for photographs, and eventually exited the venue around the same time.
Their appearance together soon became a trending topic online, with fans and social media users debating the significance of the moment. While some simply shared clips and photos from the event, others speculated about the nature of their relationship, adding to the growing buzz.
Amid this discussion, Parthiban made a remark about Trisha during the Galatta Awards. During the ceremony, he was asked to comment on actors he had previously worked with. When Trisha’s photograph appeared on the screen, he referenced her role as Kundavai from the historical epic Ponniyin Selvan.
Playing on the character’s name, Parthiban jokingly said that “this Kundavai should be kept at home for a few days,” implying she should not be allowed to come out. The comment was met with criticism from several viewers and social media users, many of whom felt it was inappropriate and unnecessary.
Following the backlash, Parthiban addressed the issue publicly. On March 8, he posted an apology on his social media account, acknowledging the criticism and expressing regret for his words. His statement aimed to clarify that the remark was not intended to offend, though the controversy had already sparked widespread discussion.

Soon after, Trisha responded through a post on X (formerly Twitter). While she did not mention Parthiban by name, her message clearly addressed the remarks made about her during the event.
In her post, the actor revealed that her name and photograph had been added to the event presentation at the last minute at the request of an individual through an assistant. She said the organisers themselves had informed her about the late inclusion.
Trisha also criticised the nature of the remarks made about her, emphasising that having access to a microphone does not automatically make a comment intelligent or humorous. She wrote that crude words spoken without proper knowledge often reveal more about the speaker than the person being targeted.
Her response quickly gained traction online, with many fans praising her for handling the situation firmly while avoiding direct confrontation. Supporters appreciated the tone of her statement, saying it addressed the issue without escalating the controversy further.
The situation has also drawn attention because of developments in Vijay’s personal life. Sangeeta Sornalingam recently filed a divorce petition at the Chengalpattu family court in Chennai. Along with the petition, she reportedly requested an interim order allowing her to continue residing in the family’s Chennai home.
Vijay and Sangeeta share a long history together. The couple married in June 1998 in the United Kingdom and later held another wedding ceremony in Chennai in August 1999 attended by fans and well-wishers. They have two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha.
While the personal developments have attracted considerable media attention, Vijay has also been focusing on his political ambitions. The actor has been preparing to contest the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu and has been actively travelling across the state to hold rallies and connect with supporters.
Trisha’s statement suggests she is determined to address misinformation and criticism directly when necessary. As the controversy gradually settles, the episode highlights how celebrity appearances at public events can quickly turn into major discussions in the age of social media.
