Alpha Review: Can Alia Bhatt’s Spy Thriller Deliver Or Does It Miss The Mark?

Alia Bhatt and Sharvari deliver committed performances, but predictable twists and weak writing keep YRF's spy thriller from soaring.

Alpha begins with an interesting setup that takes viewers back to the period after the Kargil War and introduces a story filled with spies, secret missions and family connections. The film has all the ingredients of a big action entertainer, including impressive visuals, stylish action scenes and a strong cast led by Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor. However, despite its grand scale, the screenplay struggles to maintain the excitement it promises at the beginning.

Alia Bhatt delivers a confident performance and handles the action sequences with ease, while Sharvari also leaves a strong impression. Bobby Deol performs well in his dual role, and Anil Kapoor brings authority to his character. The cinematography and background score add to the film’s polished look, but the predictable twists and emotional moments fail to create the desired impact. Hrithik Roshan’s special appearance as Kabir feels more like a way to connect the YRF Spy Universe than a meaningful addition to the story.

The film gradually shifts from being a gripping spy thriller to a familiar family drama, losing much of its momentum along the way. While Alpha succeeds as a visually appealing action film, it falls short when it comes to storytelling. Overall, it is an average spy thriller that entertains in parts but does not leave a lasting impression despite its talented cast and high production values.
