Netflix has found an unusual way to promote its new movie The Last House. The streaming platform has placed a performer inside a specially built room that is part of a billboard on Sunset Boulevard. Instead of simply displaying an advertisement, the billboard has been turned into a small living space where a man is staying for several days.
According to Netflix, the man entered the billboard on Thursday, August 6 and is expected to leave on Saturday, August 8. The installation stands around 30 feet above the ground at Selma Avenue and Sunset Blvd. From the street, the structure looks like a regular billboard, but it contains a complete enclosed room where the performer is spending his time.
The man has been identified as Nathan Shoop, an actor and senior experiential producer based in Los Angeles. His LinkedIn profile also shows that he has worked with Netflix in the past. During his time inside the billboard, Shoop has been communicating with people on the street using a whiteboard.
Netflix told The Hollywood Reporter that he will “attempt to maintain a sense of normalcy over extended periods of time while ‘stuck’ in his elevated, enclosed set 30 feet above the ground at Selma Avenue and Sunset Blvd — communicating with commuters and passersby below via whiteboard as an eerie nod to the family’s own isolation in the film.”
The unusual setup is directly connected to the story of The Last House, which stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura. The movie follows a family of four who suddenly become trapped inside their home and are unable to get out. With their food and other resources slowly running out, the family must work together to survive while facing a mysterious threat that keeps them trapped.
