Netflix has unveiled the teaser of its upcoming series Akka, starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte in the lead roles. Released on Keerthy Suresh’s birthday, the teaser introduces viewers to a fictional kingdom called Pernuru, where women have been in charge for generations. Set in the 1980s, the series follows a world where traditions, power and personal rivalries play an important role in shaping people’s lives. Unlike the usual gangster dramas that focus on powerful men, Akka tells its story through women who have built and protected their own kingdom.
Keerthy Suresh plays Bhavani, while Radhika Apte portrays Rudra. Both women appear to hold important positions in Pernuru, where maintaining power is not as simple as it seems. The teaser gives a glimpse of their characters and the atmosphere surrounding them, suggesting that disagreements and changing relationships could threaten the kingdom’s existing order. However, the makers have not revealed the complete storyline or the exact connection between Bhavani and Rudra.
A gangster story where women make the rules
The fictional kingdom of Pernuru has been governed by generations of women who created their own traditions and systems of leadership. While their authority has remained strong over the years, the story explores what happens when rivalries begin to challenge that control. The 1980s setting adds another layer to the narrative, presenting a society shaped by its own customs and beliefs.
Rather than revealing the central conflict, the teaser focuses on introducing the characters and establishing the world in which the events will unfold.
Akka release date and production details
Produced by YRF Entertainment, Akka marks the directorial debut of Dharmaraj Shetty, who has also written the series. The project brings Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte together in a supernatural free gangster drama centred on female leadership, ambition and changing power equations.
Akka is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 30, with further details about its story yet to be revealed.
