Veteran actor, producer, and Indian television pioneer Dheeraj Kumar passed away in Mumbai at the age of 79. The legendary figure had been battling pneumonia and was under critical care at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. Despite being on ventilator support, he succumbed to complications arising from the infection.
Earlier, his family and production team had issued a statement requesting privacy while hoping for his recovery. “Dheeraj Kumar is with doctors and undergoing treatment. The family wishes for his quick recovery and respectfully requests everyone to give them space during this difficult period,” the statement had read.
Bollywood Career: Supporting Star of the 70s and 80s
Dheeraj Kumar gained prominence in the 1970s and 80s with notable roles in Hindi cinema. He played pivotal characters in popular films such as Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974) alongside Manoj Kumar and Zeenat Aman. His filmography also includes box office hits like Swami, Kranti, and Heera Panna. Apart from Hindi films, he was a leading man in several Punjabi films and shared the screen with some of Indian cinema’s most iconic stars.
