Actress and comedian Amy Schumer has officially announced her divorce from husband Chris Fischer after seven years of marriage. The news was shared through a candid and characteristically humorous Instagram post, where Schumer emphasized that the decision was mutual, amicable and grounded in deep respect for one another.
In her announcement, Schumer made it clear that although their marriage has come to an end, their partnership as parents remains strong. “Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years,” she wrote, adding that their primary focus continues to be raising their son, Gene. Blending sincerity with her trademark humor, Schumer also requested privacy, while dismissing online speculation surrounding the reasons for their separation.
The post was accompanied by a warm photo of the former couple smiling together while riding the New York City subway. The image symbolized unity and goodwill, reinforcing Schumer’s message that their separation is rooted in love, respect and a shared commitment to family rather than conflict.
Schumer and Fischer’s relationship first sparked public interest in 2017, and the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in 2018. In May 2019, they welcomed their son Gene, often sharing candid and relatable moments of parenthood with fans. Over the years, Schumer frequently praised Fischer’s support and their shared approach to family life.
In recent weeks, however, speculation about trouble in their marriage began circulating, largely driven by changes in Schumer’s social media presence. In November, fans noticed that she had removed photos featuring Fischer from her Instagram account, fueling rumors of a possible split.
Earlier this year, Schumer addressed the growing speculation directly. In an Instagram Story featuring a photo of New York City and a nod to Hulu’s divorce-lawyer series All’s Fair, she cheekily wrote, “And Chris and I are still married.” In another post, the “Trainwreck” actress clarified that any changes in her relationship had nothing to do with her weight loss or discussions around autism.
“Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism,” she wrote, adding, “Fingers crossed we make it through. He’s the best.”
While their marriage has now ended, Schumer’s announcement makes it clear that her bond with Fischer continues through shared parenthood, mutual respect and a commitment to moving forward as a family.
