Warner Bros has launched a different kind of promotional campaign for Tom Cruise’s upcoming comedy film Digger. On June 23, 2026, the studio released a three minute retrospective trailer that takes viewers through some of the actor’s most famous films before offering a brief look at his latest project.
The trailer opens with one of Cruise’s best known lines from Top Gun, where he says, “I feel the need. The need for speed.” It then moves to a scene from Interview with the Vampire, featuring Cruise as Lestat saying, “I assume I need no introduction”. From there, the video highlights several important films from different stages of his career.
The retrospective trailer includes scenes from Mission: Impossible, Edge of Tomorrow, The Last Samurai, Collateral, Minority Report and Tropic Thunder. It also features memorable moments and dialogue from Magnolia, Jerry Maguire and Rain Man. By bringing together clips from these films, the trailer offers a look at the variety of roles Cruise has taken on during his time in Hollywood.
The final moments of the trailer focus on Digger. The short preview presents Cruise in a role that looks quite different from many of his previous characters. He speaks with a Southern accent and appears with extra weight, moving with a distinctive walk. In the scene, he is shown entering an arena while a crowd cheers around him.
In the film, Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an oil baron. The filmmakers have described the movie as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions”. The project is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, known for his work on several acclaimed films.
After the trailer was released, Cruise shared it on X and reflected on his career. He wrote, “For the last 46 years, it has been my privilege to work alongside countless talented artists and crews to create these characters, stories, and films for you all. I’m looking forward to seeing you at the movies!”
Alongside Cruise, the film stars Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jesse Plemons in important roles. The full trailer for Digger is scheduled to be released on July 13. The film is set to arrive in theaters on October 2, giving audiences their first chance to see Cruise in this new comedic role.
