‘Dune: Part Three’ Trailer Hints At Betrayal, War And A Dangerous New Enemy

The first trailer for 'Dune: Part Three' shows Paul Atreides facing betrayal, political unrest and new enemies before its December 18, 2026 release.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have released the official trailer for ‘Dune: Part Three’, offering the first full look at the final film in director Denis Villeneuve’s science fiction trilogy. The trailer was released on July 8 (local time), ahead of the movie’s theatrical and IMAX release on December 18, 2026.

Based on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, the film takes place nearly two decades after the events of ‘Dune: Part Two’. The story follows Paul Atreides after he has become Emperor and taken control of the Imperium. The trailer shows Timothee Chalamet returning as Paul with a new buzz cut and a more serious appearance. Now leading the galaxy, Paul is dealing with the consequences of the holy war that was fought in his name. As Emperor, he is shown carrying the weight of his decisions while facing growing political pressure and disturbing visions about the future. The trailer suggests that his rise to power has come with a heavy personal and political cost.

Zendaya returns as Chani, whose relationship with Paul has changed since the previous film. The trailer shows her preparing for conflict while expressing a deep sense of betrayal over Paul’s decision to take power. Their strained relationship appears to be one of the main emotional parts of the story. At the same time, the trailer hints that several powerful groups are secretly working against House Atreides, creating fresh challenges for Paul and his supporters as he tries to hold on to his rule.

The trailer also brings back several familiar faces from the earlier films. Jason Momoa returns as Duncan Idaho, with the footage suggesting the character comes back as the cloned “Ghola” named Hayt. Robert Pattinson makes his first appearance in the franchise as Scytale, the shape shifting Face Dancer from the Bene Tleilaxu. Other returning cast members include Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor Joy as Alia Atreides and Javier Bardem.

Denis Villeneuve has directed the film and co wrote the screenplay with Brian K. Vaughan. Academy Award winning composer Hans Zimmer has once again composed the music for the final chapter of the trilogy.

The trailer, titled “Sacrifice and Sovereignty,” gives a look at a darker phase of Paul’s journey as he faces political unrest, personal loss and the growing impact of his choices. ‘Dune: Part Three’ is set to release in theatres and IMAX on December 18, 2026, marking the conclusion of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s story.
