The Grey’s Anatomy star confirmed that he has no plans to run for public office, even though many people encouraged him to consider it. Dempsey shared his thoughts in an opinion piece published in the Portland Press Herald, making it clear that while he cares deeply about his home state and the future of the country, politics is not the path he wants to follow.
The speculation began after Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner suspended and later ended his campaign following allegations of sexual assault and misconduct made by several women. Platner has denied all the allegations, calling them false, but his decision to withdraw from the race created discussions about who could step forward as a possible replacement. Because Dempsey is a well known public figure and a proud Maine native, many people suggested that he should consider entering the race.

The organisation provides free care, counselling and support services for cancer patients and their families. According to Dempsey, working closely with families during some of the most difficult moments in their lives has shown him the importance of kindness, compassion and bringing people together, regardless of their political views.
Although Dempsey has never held elected office, he has remained active in his local community for many years. He has supported political leaders, attended public events and spoken about issues related to healthcare and social welfare.
