Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures has released the official trailer for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, an upcoming action thriller written and directed by Bassam Tariq. The film features two time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role and tells an emotional story that combines action, family relationships, grief and faith.
The film will have its world premiere in the Special Presentations section at the Toronto International Film Festival this September. After its festival debut, it will open in select theatres in New York and Los Angeles on September 25 before expanding to more locations in October as part of its wider theatrical release.
The project also marks a reunion between Mahershala Ali and director Bassam Tariq. The two were previously attached to Marvel’s Blade reboot in 2021. Although Tariq later stepped away from the superhero film and the project did not move forward, they have now joined hands for this original thriller.
The title Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother is inspired by a well known Islamic saying that highlights the importance of caring for and respecting mothers. The story follows Latif, played by Mahershala Ali, an assassin who is trying to balance his dangerous secret life with the responsibilities of raising his children after the death of his wife.
Latif’s life takes an unexpected turn while searching for breast milk for his infant daughter with the help of his teenage daughter, played by Adia, and his young son. During this journey, he is suddenly pulled into a contract killing that puts him in direct conflict with influential faith leader Hwan Yoon, played by John Cho. As the situation becomes more dangerous, Latif depends on the support of his community while doing everything possible to protect his family. At the same time, he struggles with questions about faith, responsibility and coping with personal loss.
The film also stars Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, Jahleel Kamara and Giancarlo Esposito in important supporting roles.
The newly released trailer offers a mix of emotional family moments, intense action and suspense. Instead of focusing only on thrilling sequences, the film explores the difficult choices a father must make while trying to protect the people he loves. With a powerful cast, an emotional storyline and strong action elements, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother is shaping up to be a compelling drama thriller ahead of its theatrical release.
