Masters Of The Universe Review: He Man’s Return Falls Short Of Expectations

Masters Of The Universe delivers impressive visuals and nostalgia, but a weak hero, predictable story, and uneven tone limit its overall impact.

Masters Of The Universe attempts to reintroduce He Man to a new generation while also appealing to longtime fans, but it struggles to fully satisfy either audience. Instead of presenting He Man as the powerful and confident hero many remember, the film spends most of its runtime focusing on Prince Adam’s origin story and personal doubts.

Nicholas Galitzine brings sincerity to the role of Adam, but the character often feels too uncertain to convincingly carry the weight of the story. Surprisingly, Camila Mendes’ Teela emerges as the more engaging character, frequently driving the narrative forward with determination and confidence. Meanwhile, Jared Leto’s Skeletor lacks the intimidating presence expected from one of fantasy’s most iconic villains.

The film features decent visual effects and succeeds in bringing Eternia to life, but the story follows a predictable path. Several plot points involving the Sword of Power feel underdeveloped, leaving important questions unanswered. The humour also feels aimed at a much younger audience and occasionally undermines the film’s adventurous tone.

There are a few meaningful moments, particularly those centered on resilience, growth, and compassion, which add some emotional depth. However, the movie spends so much time setting up future installments that it never becomes fully satisfying on its own.

Overall, Masters Of The Universe is a watchable fantasy adventure with strong nostalgia value, but it falls short of becoming the exciting and memorable He Man revival many fans may have hoped for.
