The grand finale of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) turned into a memorable celebration for cinema lovers as Indian megastar Rajinikanth made a special appearance at the event. The legendary actor’s presence added star power to the closing day, which also featured a screening of his 2024 film Lal Salaam.
Directed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth, Lal Salaam is a Tamil-language sports action drama produced by Allirajah Subaskaran under the Lyca Productions banner. The film, which explores themes of unity, passion for sports, and social harmony, was showcased at IFFI to an enthusiastic audience. Aishwarya, who attended the screening alongside her father, expressed her joy and gratitude for the film’s inclusion at the prestigious festival. The screening marked a proud moment for both the filmmaker and the iconic star.
Visuals shared on IFFI’s official Instagram handle captured Rajinikanth waving warmly to fans gathered at the venue. His appearance drew loud cheers, reflecting the immense admiration he commands even after nearly five decades in the film industry. The festival also announced that Rajinikanth would be honoured at the closing ceremony, recognising his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema over 50 years.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Rajinikanth on completing half a century in the world of films. In a heartfelt message on X, he wrote, “Congratulations to Thiru Rajinikanth Ji on completing 50 glorious years in the world of cinema. His journey has been iconic, with his diverse roles having left a lasting impact on the minds of people across generations. Wishing him continued success and good health in the times to come.”
Rajinikanth responded graciously, expressing deep appreciation for the Prime Minister’s words. “Respected @narendramodi Modi ji, I am deeply grateful for your warm wishes. It is truly an honour to receive them from a leader I have long held in the highest regard. Thank you for your kind words. Jai Hind,” he wrote.
As IFFI 2024 concluded, Rajinikanth’s presence and the tribute to his monumental career became one of the festival’s biggest highlights. For fans and film enthusiasts alike, the closing ceremony not only celebrated cinema but also honoured the legacy of a man whose influence transcends generations.
