Fans of the iconic comedy franchise Hera Pheri have reason to rejoice, as Hera Pheri 3 is officially back on track. The much-awaited sequel will reunite the beloved trio of Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty, who originally won hearts with their unforgettable roles as Raju, Baburao, and Shyam.
The third instalment has seen its fair share of ups and downs. Earlier this year, Paresh Rawal’s sudden exit from the project shocked fans and even caught Akshay Kumar who has acquired the rights to the franchise—by surprise. The uncertainty around the film’s progress led to widespread speculation, further intensified when Akshay reportedly filed a legal notice related to the film’s production.
However, the situation has now stabilised. Paresh Rawal recently confirmed that he is returning to the film and assured fans that Hera Pheri 3 is happening. He revealed that the film is scheduled to begin shooting between February and March next year, bringing fresh hope to fans who’ve waited nearly two decades for another chapter in the franchise.
Meanwhile, acclaimed director Priyadarshan, who helmed the original Hera Pheri (2000), has also broken his silence about the possibility of directing the third film. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, he expressed a cautious but passionate stance: “I cannot tell if I am doing the third part, unless and until I can crack a film which has to do justice to the first instalment. The first part was born, but the third one shouldn’t let it die.”
Priyadarshan further explained that he will not sign on unless the script meets his creative standards. “If a good script doesn’t turn out to my conviction, I will not do the film. I have climbed certain heights in my career from where I don’t want to fall badly,” he said.
The original Hera Pheri, released in 2000, remains one of Bollywood’s most loved comedies. It was directed by Priyadarshan and followed by Phir Hera Pheri (2006), directed by the late Neeraj Vora. Both films achieved cult status, and the characters of Baburao, Raju, and Shyam continue to enjoy a massive fan following.
With the core cast reunited and development officially in motion, Hera Pheri 3 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films in recent memory.
