A star-studded Udaipur wedding, Ranveer Singh’s electrifying stage presence, and Donald Trump Jr. grooving to Bollywood beats — the extravagant festivities of industrialist Raju Ramalinga Mantena’s daughter Netra Mantena have set social media ablaze. But alongside the viral videos from the event, an unexpected conversation has resurfaced: Ranbir Kapoor’s old interview where he vowed never to dance at weddings for money.
The high-profile wedding of US-based businessman Raju Ramalinga Mantena’s daughter Netra and Vamsi Gadiraju saw several celebrities in attendance, but it was Ranveer Singh who stole the show. Taking over the stage with his signature energy, Ranveer transformed the celebration into what fans described as a “mini concert.” In viral clips, he is seen getting Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend Bettina Anderson to join him on the dance floor to “What Jhumka?” from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, creating a moment that quickly took over the internet.
As the clips continued to dominate social media, a 2011 interview of Ranbir Kapoor began circulating again. In the conversation with Times Now, Ranbir spoke candidly about why he would never perform at weddings for money — a practice many Bollywood stars willingly embrace.
“I wouldn’t do it because of the family I come from,” he said, referencing his lineage: great-grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor, grandson of Raj Kapoor, and son of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor. “Having said that, I’m not against the people who do it. But it’s not the values I’ve been brought up with.”
Ranbir clarified that he did not view wedding performances as morally wrong but felt they didn’t align with his personal motivations. “Money is not my drive. I don’t want to earn billions and billions. I’m an actor. My drive is different. My passions are different,” he explained. For him, the idea of dancing at a wedding — possibly surrounded by guests making snide remarks — felt like a compromise of self-respect. “I don’t want to lose my dignity in my eyes. I wouldn’t want any of my family members to do it. It’s a personal choice.”
Addressing whether turning down such offers could diminish his stardom, Ranbir responded with clarity: “I wouldn’t lose stardom, but I wouldn’t allow my stardom to make myself think that if I’m a star, I can do anything and get away with it.”
With Ranveer’s vibrant dance videos continuing to trend, Ranbir’s decade-old comment has reignited discussions about celebrity culture, personal values, and the evolving norms of star appearances at private events.
