Varun Dhawan, known for his charm and impeccable comic timing, has often been part of successful multi-starrer films. However, with the release of his latest film Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, the actor found himself at the center of unexpected controversy. Some netizens accused Varun of feeling “insecure” about his co-star Rohit Saraf and even claimed that he may have had some of Saraf’s scenes cut from the final edit of the film.
Addressing these allegations during a recent interview with BBC Asia Network, Varun maintained a calm and composed stance. Before he could respond, his co-star Janhvi Kapoor jumped in to defend him. “He is the last person who would do that,” Janhvi firmly stated. Drawing from her own industry experience, she added, “I have been in this industry for 6-7 years, worked with enough people, and heard enough stories. Varun is maybe one of the only people who is so secure and wise enough to understand that a movie is a collective effort. He gets a lot of joy in building other people up.”
Varun, echoing her sentiments, added, “At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which way the narrative swings. I don’t like to pay attention to that. My friendships with my co-stars over the years are a testament to that. I do feel I have a lot of love from my fans who have always stood by me. All around the world, they’ve always had my back, whether in hits or flops.”
Meanwhile, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has finally hit theatres and is receiving positive reviews. News18 Showsha rated the film 3.5 stars, calling it “hilariously boisterous, romantically tender, and quietly observant of the cultural tides of its time.” The review praised the film’s nostalgic yet modern tone, noting how it merges classic Bollywood romance with today’s social realities.
Varun Dhawan, in particular, was lauded for his performance. The review highlighted, “Varun is in his sweet spot; his flair for comedy meets an emotional undercurrent that makes Sunny both ridiculous and relatable.” Janhvi Kapoor also earned acclaim for her portrayal of Tulsi Kumari, delivering a performance that was both heartfelt and luminous.
In the face of criticism, Varun Dhawan has shown grace and confidence—qualities that continue to make him one of Bollywood’s most reliable stars.
