Mirzapur: The Film Gets a New Bablu Pandit - Jitendra Kumar Replaces Vikrant Massey

The gritty world of Mirzapur is heading to the big screen, with Mirzapur: The Film officially going into production. Fans of the cult-favorite series have more reason to celebrate as actor Jitendra Kumar, known for his acclaimed roles in Panchayat and Kota Factory, steps in to play the beloved character Bablu Pandit.

Jitendra Kumar Replaces Vikrant Massey

The role of Bablu Pandit, originally played by Vikrant Massey in the first season of Mirzapur, will now be portrayed by Jitendra Kumar. According to a report by Mid-Day, Vikrant was approached to reprise the role but turned down the offer. Sources revealed that the actor had reservations about returning after Bablu’s shocking death in Season 1. Reportedly, Vikrant feared that the film adaptation might follow a similar trajectory for his character.

Producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani respected his decision and began searching for someone who could honour the legacy of Bablu while bringing a fresh energy to the role. Their search ended with Jitendra Kumar, whose natural screen presence and widespread appeal among younger audiences made him the ideal choice.

Filming Underway in Mumbai

Shooting for Mirzapur: The Film has commenced at Film City in Goregaon, Mumbai, with other key cast members expected to join soon. While details of the plot are under wraps, the film is slated for a theatrical release in 2026, further expanding the gritty crime universe that has captivated fans since 2018.

Mohit Malik Makes Big Screen Debut

Another exciting addition to the film’s cast is television star Mohit Malik, who will be making his cinematic debut with this project. Known for his roles in Doli Armaano Ki and Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala, Mohit expressed his enthusiasm on social media.

“Excited to join the world of Mirzapur! Thank you to the team and producers for this warm welcome,” he wrote. He also shared a handwritten note from the producers that read:

“Dear Mohit, We are excited to have you on the team for Mirzapur. Can’t wait to see the magic you bring to the screen. Best wishes, Ritesh and Farhan.”

Mohit to Play Lord Shiva on TV

Alongside his film debut, Mohit will soon return to television in a mythological avatar, playing Lord Shiva in Sony TV’s upcoming show Ganesh Kartikey. As Mirzapur: The Film takes shape, anticipation builds for what could be one of 2026’s most explosive cinematic releases.
