BTS member V, or Kim Taehyung, surprised fans with a spontaneous late-night livestream on September 12. In an audio-only broadcast, he had a great time hosting a BTS Song World Cup and eventually selected the 2016 song “Save Me” as his favorite BTS song of all time — even before his favorite solo songs.

The concept was born out of a suggestion from a fan on Weverse to rank BTS songs. V enjoyed the suggestion and immediately began looking for a site where he could begin the tournament. What resulted was a sentimental, nostalgic trip through BTS’ vast discography, covering 13 years of music.

A Heartfelt Trip Down Memory Lane

As he progressed through match-ups of BTS songs — from debut-era hits to more recent international successes — V recounted his emotional responses, complimented other members’ vocals, and even sought input from fans. Even fan favorites such as “Winter Bear”, V prioritized BTS group tracks, demonstrating his long-standing attachment to the band’s collaborative artistry.

Perhaps the biggest upset saw Jungkook’s solo number “Euphoria” defeat “Young Forever”, which is a song that many fans have very close to their hearts. But “Euphoria” was subsequently defeated by “Dimple” in the quarter-finals, a song V openly loves.

The Final Showdown: “Save Me” vs “Mikrokosmos”

The finale was narrowed to two sentimental fan favorites — “Save Me” and “Mikrokosmos”. Although the former is universally praised for its sentimental appearance at BTS shows, V surprised many in ultimately selecting “Save Me”, a song recognized for its unadulterated emotion and strong message.

By doing this impromptu and sincere activity, V not only expressed his taste in music but also presented ARMY with a lovely reminder of the group’s journey — and how much he is attuned to it.
