Netflix is set to premiere an emotionally charged psychological thriller that explores the fragile boundaries between truth and perception. Titled Accused, the film features Konkona Sen Sharma alongside Laapataa Ladies breakout star Pratibha Ranta in a layered story about accusation, belief, and emotional loyalty under public scrutiny.
Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap and backed by Dharma Productions’ digital division Dharmatic Entertainment, the film examines how quickly certainty can dissolve when allegations emerge. The recently released trailer hints at a tense narrative centered on a relationship pushed to its breaking point.
Set in London, the story revolves around Geetika, a respected surgeon played by Konkona, and her partner Meera, portrayed by Pratibha. Both are doctors preparing to adopt a child and begin a new chapter together. However, their plans are thrown into turmoil when Geetika is accused of sexual harassment at her workplace.
The accusation sends shockwaves through every aspect of her life — threatening not only her professional reputation but also the trust that forms the foundation of their relationship. As scrutiny intensifies, Meera finds herself caught between emotional loyalty and growing uncertainty.
The film explores how public perception can quickly overshadow truth, especially in situations where facts remain unclear. As doubt creeps in, the strength of their bond is tested in ways neither anticipated.
Sharing the trailer, Karan Johar hinted at the emotional complexity of the story, suggesting that every relationship carries secrets waiting to surface.
Reflecting on her role, Pratibha described Meera as someone trapped in a difficult grey space — aware of reality yet emotionally resistant to accepting it. She emphasized the importance of platforms like Netflix in telling stories where women are portrayed as imperfect yet deeply authentic.
Director Anubhuti revealed that Pratibha was always envisioned for the role following her memorable performance in Laapataa Ladies. According to her, Pratibha brought both emotional sensitivity and presence to the character.
Written by Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani, Accused delves into workplace dynamics, identity, and the unsettling question — what happens when truth becomes subjective?
The film premieres on February 27 on Netflix.
