Netflix has released the trailer for Chumbak, a new family comedy series set in a busy urban Indian neighbourhood. The story revolves around five families who live so close to each other that their neighbours have become almost like members of their own families. Because everyone knows everyone, even a small problem in one home can soon become a matter of concern for the entire neighbourhood.
The series is produced by Hats Off Production, known for comedy shows such as Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Khichdi. Chumbak is written and directed by Aatish Kapadia, who also serves as a producer alongside Jamnadas JD Majethia.
The trailer introduces several families, each with its own personality, relationships and problems. Mickey and Twinkle Oberoi, played by Arjun Bijlani and Helly Shah, are a romantic couple who seem to be lost in their own happy world. Their relationship adds a romantic side to the story.
Aditya and Priyanka Khanna, played by Sumeet Vyas and Manasi Parekh, appear to have a peaceful marriage. However, the trailer suggests that their seemingly calm life has its share of arguments and everyday issues.
The Taraporewala family includes Mumma Gulshan, Freddy and Hutoxi, played by Delnaaz Irani, Anant V. Joshi and Amyra Dastur. Their family dynamics add another source of confusion and humour to the neighbourhood.
Rajni and Kuku Merchant, played by Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani, are often seen arguing with each other. Despite their differences, they continue to share a strong bond. Dharmendra and Kiran Kejriwal, played by Sumeet Raghvan and Sandeepa Dhar, also have an unusual relationship that becomes part of the neighbourhood’s daily drama.
The series deals with situations that many families and neighbours can relate to, including marriage problems, parenting, family arguments, celebrations and gossip. The humour comes from the way ordinary problems quickly become bigger when everyone gets involved.
The cast also features Atul Kumar along with Neena Gupta, Deven Bhojani, Sumeet Raghvan, Sandeepa Dhar, Arjun Bijlani, Helly Shah, Sumeet Vyas, Manasi Parekh, Delnaaz Irani, Anant V. Joshi and Amyra Dastur.
Chumbak premieres September 10 on Netflix.
