Raja Shivaji continued its stable performance at the Indian box office during its third week in theatres. The historical drama collected Rs. 1.50 crore on its third Friday, showing a drop of around 15 per cent compared to the previous day.
Compared to its second Friday collections, the movie recorded a decline of nearly 60 per cent. Even with the drop, the film has managed to maintain a steady hold and continues to attract audiences across several regions.
With its latest collections, Raja Shivaji has now reached a total gross collection of Rs. 91 crore in India. Trade estimates suggest that the film could witness a good jump over the weekend. If the trend continues, the movie is expected to end its third weekend with around Rs. 96 crore gross at the Indian box office.
The film is now very close to crossing the important Rs. 100 crore mark in India. According to current estimates, Raja Shivaji may achieve this milestone by Tuesday during its third week.
If the movie reaches the mark, it will become the first Marathi film in history to cross Rs. 100 crore at the Indian box office.
Earlier Marathi blockbusters like Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva had come close to the milestone but were unable to cross it.
One major reason behind Raja Shivaji’s strong performance is its wider reach beyond Maharashtra. Unlike Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva, which earned most of their business through Marathi audiences in Maharashtra, Raja Shivaji has also been released in a Hindi dubbed version.
Because of the Hindi release, the movie has managed to collect a good share of revenue from audiences outside Maharashtra as well. This broader audience support has helped the film perform strongly in different parts of India.
Trade analysts believe that the success of Raja Shivaji could open more opportunities for Marathi cinema to reach a national audience through dubbed releases and wider distribution.
