The official trailer for Josh Hartnett’s upcoming Netflix series Below has been released, offering a first look at a mysterious creature that appears to be hiding beneath the sea. The six part limited series follows a fisherman whose life changes when a dangerous creature begins threatening his small Newfoundland town.
Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, a kind hearted but stubborn fisherman who has spent years trying to understand what happened to his father. His father’s mysterious death has continued to trouble him, but Calvin is soon forced to face a new danger when an unidentified creature begins terrorizing the community.
The Below trailer opens with a chilling warning that immediately raises questions about what happened in the water. “Right before the accident, you saw something in the water,” a voiceover says. The line suggests that the strange creature may have been connected to an earlier incident.
Calvin has spent most of his life working on the water and believes he knows the sea well. However, the arrival of the mysterious creature makes him question what he thought he understood. “I spent my whole life on the water. I thought I understood it.”
As the threat grows, Calvin becomes increasingly worried about the safety of his family and the people around him. He teams up with a marine researcher, played by Mackenzie Davis, to learn more about the creature and investigate the secrets surrounding the island.
The mystery also appears to be connected to Calvin’s father’s death. While trying to understand the creature, Calvin may have to revisit events from his past and uncover information that has remained hidden for years.
Charlie Heaton also stars in the series, along with Willow Kean, Ruby Stokes, Rohan Campbell and Kaleb Horn.
