Some films arrive with big stars, large budgets and heavy promotion, while others take time to find their audience. Hanuman Ansh belongs to the second category. The film had limited buzz when it released, but word of mouth gradually brought more viewers to theatres.
Directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, the film explores the life and journey of Neem Karoli Baba. Instead of presenting his story as a large scale commercial spectacle, the film keeps things simple and focuses on his faith, service and connection with people. It follows his journey from a young man searching for Lord Ram to the spiritual figure known as Neem Karoli Baba.
The film’s central message is straightforward. Have faith in God, but also believe in yourself, help others and remain humble. The story presents these ideas through Baba’s life rather than simply preaching them.
The natural locations, villages, ashrams and greenery add to the peaceful atmosphere. The music also supports the mood without becoming excessive. Shobhinaw Satyaa gives a restrained performance as Neem Karoli Baba, while Vihaan Shedge effectively portrays his younger years.
The film is not without flaws. Its pace is slow and some portions feel episodic. Those expecting a conventional biopic with constant drama may find it too restrained.
However, Hanuman Ansh succeeds in creating curiosity about Neem Karoli Baba, his teachings and the people influenced by him. Its biggest strength is its sincerity, making it a film that may stay with viewers even after the credits roll.
