Enola Holmes returns with a more mature story that raises the stakes while giving Millie Bobby Brown another chance to shine in the title role. This time, Enola is preparing to marry Lord Tewkesbury when Sherlock Holmes is kidnapped, forcing her to take on her biggest and most dangerous case yet.
Millie Bobby Brown once again delivers a confident performance, balancing Enola’s intelligence, humour and emotional growth with ease. Her chemistry with Louis Partridge continues to be one of the film’s biggest strengths, while Henry Cavill makes good use of his limited screen time. The film also benefits from polished visuals and a darker tone that sets it apart from the earlier movies.
However, the central mystery does not feel as exciting as those in the first two films. The story becomes weighed down by political themes, making the investigation less engaging. Moriarty, played by Sharon Duncan Brewster, is surprisingly underwhelming and never feels like the threatening mastermind the story promises. The frequent fourth wall breaks also interrupt the suspense instead of adding to the fun.
Despite these flaws, Enola Holmes 3 remains an enjoyable sequel with strong performances and entertaining moments. While it may not offer the trilogy’s smartest mystery, it is still worth watching for fans of the franchise and those looking for a well made Netflix mystery adventure.
