Toaster on Netflix starts with a very interesting idea and a unique style, but it does not fully live up to its potential. With Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, the film immediately grabs attention because he is known for playing unusual and complex characters. He plays Ramakant, a man who is extremely careful with money and has strange habits. His personality becomes the main reason the story moves forward.
The film introduces another storyline early on, hinting that there is more happening behind the scenes. As the story unfolds, it mixes elements of thriller and dark comedy. This combination feels fresh at times, as the film shows how small situations can turn into big problems. The tone is different and sometimes quite engaging, especially when it shows how simple decisions can lead to chaos.
Much of the film works like a comedy of errors, where one mistake leads to another. This creates a chain of funny yet tense situations. Some of these moments are genuinely entertaining, especially when the humor comes naturally from the situation. Watching normal life spiral into confusion and trouble adds a certain charm to the film.
However, the biggest issue lies in the writing. While the idea is strong, the story could have been told in a tighter and clearer way. At times, the film feels stretched and slow. The shift between serious thriller moments and comedy does not always feel smooth, which affects the overall flow. Instead of staying gripping throughout, the film moves in uneven parts.
Looking at performances, Sanya Malhotra plays the female lead but does not get much screen time to fully show her talent. Even with limited scope, she performs well and feels natural. Abhishek Banerjee adds an interesting layer to the film with his unpredictable character. Meanwhile, Archana Puran Singh stands out with her role, bringing something unexpected that adds depth to the story.
In the end, Toaster is an interesting watch because of its unusual concept and strong acting. It has moments that work really well, but it misses the chance to become truly memorable due to weak writing and lack of strong storytelling.
