Raja Shivaji has set a new benchmark at the Marathi box office with an impressive first week performance. The film earned around Rs. 4 crore on Thursday, which marked the final day of its opening week. With this, the movie’s total first week collection reached approximately Rs. 61.25 crore gross and around Rs. 50.50 crore nett in India.
Starring Riteish Deshmukh, the film has now become the fastest earning movie in the history of Marathi cinema. It has also recorded the highest first week collection for any Marathi film so far. Earlier, the record was held by Sairat, which had earned around Rs. 26 crore in its first week. Raja Shivaji has crossed that figure by more than double.
The film’s Hindi dubbed version has also helped boost the overall collection. However, even the original Marathi version alone earned around Rs. 42.25 crore, which itself is a major record for the industry.
After a very strong opening weekend, the film continued to perform well during the weekdays. Collections were solid on Monday, although there was a gradual drop in earnings over the following days. Despite the decline, the daily collections have remained strong compared to most Marathi releases.
Trade experts believe the film is still on track to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark in the coming weeks. Much will depend on how the movie performs during its second weekend in theatres. The second Friday is considered especially important, and the film is expected to target collections above Rs. 4 crore to maintain its momentum.
If Raja Shivaji manages to cross Rs. 100 crore, it could become the highest grossing Marathi film ever. At the same time, comparisons are being made with films like Tanhaji and Chhaava, both based on characters linked to the Maratha Empire. Tanhaji collected more than Rs. 175 crore in Maharashtra in 2020, while Chhaava crossed Rs. 300 crore.
The film’s day wise collections were Rs. 13.25 crore on Friday, Rs. 12.25 crore on Saturday, Rs. 14.75 crore on Sunday, Rs. 6.50 crore on Monday, Rs. 5.50 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 5.00 crore on Wednesday and Rs. 4.00 crore on Thursday.
